I once watched a documentary on the Poundshop and the most common question they were asked was “how much is this?” and we have the same issues as we often get asked “Which of your products are not made from plants” and we have a very simple answer.
All of our products are made from plants , that's all of them, 100% of them , we just don't do plastics, we hate them as much as you do.
So every now and again we have decided to remind people, no plastics here.
We started this business because we just couldn't believe that businesses were making a single use plastic from a material that was designed to stay around for quite some time and then when it does break down, to do it in an environmentally damaging way.
It all seemed simple to us, why take a bag shopping with you when you could just change the material, it's a barrier free approach that fits with a modern lifestyle, it's why we are so perplexed with solutions like the re-ususable cup, the cup isn't the issue, the material is, so just change the material, problem solved.
Sadly we live in a time where Governments are looking to solve the issue of single use plastics but they are looking at it in the wrong way, they see the problem and they see the solution as putting barriers in your way , rather than a solution led approach.
We were once told by someone in Defra ( a very nice fella who was a bit embarrassed to say it) that the only way we could avoid the plastic tax is to add recycled plastics to our products, it's solving a problem by creating a new one.
So if your ever in doubt , this is my promise to our customers, we will always look at solving the problem but we will never do this by adding petrol based materials to our products.
