At The Pure Option™, we believe there is no "bad" way to dispose of our products. The starting point for our products is, end of life, we start here so that Everything we make is 100% plant-based, they are designed to return to the earth without leaving behind toxic residue or microplastics.

Put simply we have a very different way of looking at things, we are a company that wants to remove barriers , so a simplistic way of looking at our product is: we remove the dead dinosaurs (petrol) and replace it with plants, so as we said above, there is no bad ways of disposing of our products, only ways with better environmental outcomes.

Whether you are composting at home or using local council collections or business waste collections, here is your simple guide to the best environmental outcomes.

🍏 Home Composting (The Best Choice for Individuals)

Our products love a home compost heap! ( with the exception of corn based PLA) It’s the perfect circular solution: use plants used to make our packaging, which then becomes food for your garden.

What to expect: In a healthy home composter, products typically break down in 13 to 44 weeks.

A helping hand: If your compost is warm and active, things break down faster.

Bonus: Did you know composted plant-based packaging can hold up to 2.5x more water than standard soil? It's a great way to help prevent soil runoff and flooding in your garden.

🏢 Industrial Composting (The Convienent Choice for Businesses)

For products that are slightly more robust—like our corn based PLA - industrial composting is the gold standard.

Speed: These facilities use high heat to break products down into nutrient-rich compost in under 6 weeks.

Collection: Simply place these items in your dedicated food waste or organics bin.

♻️ Can I Recycle Them?

While our products are primarily designed to compost, some can be recycled if they aren't soiled by food:

Paper Cold Cups & Pizza Boxes: If they are clean and dry, they can go in your cardboard/paper recycling.

Bags with Windows: Our new NatureFlex windows are home compostable, but if you want to recycle the paper part, simply remove the window first.

A quick tip: Always check with your local waste provider, as some facilities have different rules for plant-based materials.

🗑️ What if they go in the General Waste?

Don't worry—there is no toxic downside. Even if your local council sends these products to a landfill or an "Energy from Waste" (incineration) facility:

No Toxins: Unlike plastic, they won't leach chemicals into the soil or air.

Green Energy: If incinerated, they often help generate electricity for the local grid, providing a final environmental benefit.
