As part of our Eco Facts program to spark sensible debate, here is our latest fact.
ECO FACT No5
The current narrative is that the UK should be doing more, whereas we feel we should be talking about how far we have come and targeting the nations that have increased their Co2.
We do accept this is simplifying things as the UK has made the choice to outsource a lot of it's production, but that doesn't diminish the UK's path to carbon neutrality.
In the 1970's the UK created 669518 tonnes of Co2 and up to 2022 the UK produced 340610 , that's a reduction of 58.6% less Co2 than in 1970.
This doesn't mean we feel that the UK shouldn't continue reducing it's Co2 but with the peat extraction ban we predict this figure to be at least 75% in 2024 ( figures currently not compiled after 2022).
