We have some important news for our US customers.
I think it's fair to say US politics is a bit divisive and we definately live in interesting times.
This leads me onto Trumps favourite word “Tariffs" (we discussed this in the office, we all don't like tariff, we prefer kerfuffle and Cwtch the Welsh word for hug) , and sadly that is the change we have to annouce.
As you may or may not know all UK imports into the US now have a 10% import charge (and a £1.50 admin fee for the compliance paperwork) , the bit we were unaware of is their is no longer a minimum limit, we had heard that Trumps Administration were considering lowering the limit, we didn't realise they were going to remove it completely.
So what does this mean for our US customers?
Sadly, All US orders now have to pay a tariff before we can dispatch your order, so the key questions is how is this going to work?
Our website wasn't built to charge tax on imports ( something we are looking into at the moment) , so we have no mechanism in place to charge tax on an export order, so this requires some “thinking outside of the box” as you would say in the US.
- We have updated the US delivery option to inform you their will be additional charges before placing your order.
- We will send you a PayPal invoice for the customs charge including the admin fee (look out for this in your email account).
- Once this is paid, we will dispatch your order and attach the paypal customs fee documentation along with the CN22 or CN23 custom form, to avoid any delays when passing through customs.
I should stress in case this isn't obvious, The Pure Option and the UK Government is not charging you any customs fees, this is entirely US policy and we have no control over this charge , it has to be paid before we can dispatch your order.
There is one small silver lining and that is , this will speed up customs in the US as they will have the customs charge paid along with all the paperwork, so we expect customs delays to greatly reduce for orders sent to the US (wish we could say the same about Ireland).
Any questions please do get in touch with me or my team and I am sorry to annouce this as I don't think you should have to pay it, or that we should have to charge in on behalf of the US IRS , but sadly we do not have any other option other than to stop selling to the US, as a lot of our competitors have done, but we are committed to sending to the US as we do the rest of the world.
I sincerely hope this didn't come as much of a shock to you as it did to us ( as mentioned we knew about the 10% tariff, just not the removal of the $800 level).
Any questions add them to the comments.
