The Willow Report has arrived

The Willow Report has arrived

It surprises people when we say that we aren't a fan of the UK Governments confused Net Zero plan,  as this is quite often a case of fighting a fire using Niagara Falls, while someone else creates a bigger fire somewhere else, but the one thing we do agree on is -

Small changes can make a big difference and save your business money.

So what is the Willow Review ?

The Willow Review Final Report, a landmark initiative that proves that sustainability isn’t just good for the planet, it’s good for business too.

The independent Review is backed by government and co-chaired by Minister Gareth Thomas, Michelle Ovens CBE, and Nick Stace OBE. The Willow Review brings together new data, real-world case studies, existing research and the voices of hundreds of small businesses to explore the financial benefits of sustainability.

So sum up, this report is to show that being sustainable and looking at your operations is not only good for the planet, but also good for your business.

So where does The Pure Option fit into this?

The Pure Option has been part of a program run by Small Business Britain to look at ways of reducing our impact on the environment, when we started this program we didn't think their was a lot we could do to reduce our impact as we were already carbon Neutral and on our way to carbon negative, but surprisingly we identified a number of ways we could reduce our small environmental footprint towards our overall goal of actually reducing more carbon than we create, this is what we have achieved.

Admittedly we found this quote confusing, as the version we sent was better worded and we don't use plastic string, but we do shredd and re-purpose any plastic waste (we don't use plastic but sadly a lot of our supply chain send things to us wrapped in plastic) , but the fact is we not only don't create waste, but we actually no longer pay to have our waste collected, we have reduced what we spend on shipping materials, we have re-purposed our food waste so we can test our products decomposition and what isn't in this quote, but was in our original quote, we have also saved money by moving to 100% renewable energy.

So whats our conclusion from taking part?

As mentioned we think that the UK's Net Zero policy is a well meaning but flawed act of self sabotage, however all business should look at their operations, as we can guarantee that at worst you will reduce your businesses carbon footprint , and at best you will do this while increasing your businesses bottom line.

Until recently carbon reduction was seen as a cost without any real tangible better for the business and this program has show it now makes environmentally, ethically and financially.
