We have started our new Spotlight series where we talk about our materials and their origins.
What is glassine made of ?
Glassine is an amazing paper type substance that has a glossy opaque look (frosty appearance) and is valued for its resistance to air and water and is naturally grease resistant.
All of our glassine comes from certified sustainable forest sources, so it environmentally responisibly sourced.
How do I dispose of glassine?
Glassine is made using paper, so it is very easy to dispose of, it can be disposed of using any of these methods.
![]() | Home Composting | This is the best way of disposing of glassine as this offers the best environmental outcomes and creates nutrient rich compost that can be used to grow more plants, so this option is not only the best method for carbon savings, it also adds positively to the enviromment it is dispose of in. |
![]() | Commercial Composting | Almost as good as home composting, except someone else benefits from your waste but it still creates nutrient rich compost that can be used to grow more plants, so all the benefits of home composting with the world benefitting and not just yourself. |
![]() | Recycling | This surprises people but as it's made from wood based cellulose, it can be recycled with your paper and cardboard waste. This method obviously doesn't have the benefit of growing plants, but it does mean your waste can be used to make more products. |
![]() | General Waste Collection | We probably don't need to tell you this is the least beneficial option, however one of two things will happen to it, it will either end up in a EFW facility and be used to create electricity or it will end up in landfill, but as it's made from plants, it will not harm the environment, so not a great option but it does not add negatively to the environment. |
Whats it's carbon saving compared to plastic?
