Why your food business needs to switch to compostable

Why your food business needs to switch to compostable

You can't avoid news articles about the damage of single use plastics these days with people being told to move to re-usable (on the surface it seems like a good idea but typically they tend to not decompose or are made from plastic) but what no one talks about, the packaging isn't the issue, what's it made of is the issue.

We probably don't need to tell you that when you are making amazing curries, stacked sandwiches, or killer desserts, you still need something sturdy to put them in so your customers can grab and go, so changing to a plant based packaging means your customers and your business get the benefit of single use packaging but without any of the environmental or health downsides.

So compostable is probably. the packaging upgrade you didn’t know you needed, helping you serve up thefoods and  drinks without serving a portion of environmental guilt.

Why our packaging is special

Our packaging has had the traditional petrol based part removed and replaced with plant based materials ( typically vegetable starches, wood, corn or sugarcane), it really is that simple , the burger box isn't the issue, it's what it's made of is the issue, so our solution led approach means we just take the bad bits away.

So what's the compromise

Typically with anything to do with sustainability you need to make compromises and the only compromise is that the UK Government in their wisdom have added extra costs such as the Plastic Tax ( we have to pay this for not putting plastics in our products) and the new EPR Tax ( we have to pay for the recycling of our products, even though they are designed to be composted , we should add that all of our wood and sugarcane products can be recycled but the best outcome is always composting) , so in the interest of transparecency , you are going to pay an additional 33% ( this is typically made up of the Plastic Tax) but apart from that you can have all the time saving and convience along with reducing your waste collection costs by composting our products, so these alone can mitigate the extra cost.

Why the planet loves them (and your customers will too):

This isn't just about looking good; it's about closing the loop.

Plants, Not Petrol: By using renewable resources instead of fossil fuels, you are making a huge environmental difference and your customs will love you for it.

So what is the difference between Compostable and Biodegradable

Compostable products are designed with end of life in mind, so when they are disposed of they add positively to the environment and they come with certification to show that they add positively to the environment they are disposed of in, to put it simply they come from plants and can be used to grow more plants, it's a perfect sustainable loop.

So when your customer finishes their meal, these containers aren't destined to sit in a landfill for 500 years. They are commercially compostable and in most cases home compostable ( see the disposal tab for the product to find the best way of disposing of them).

That means they break down and turn into nutrient-rich soil that can be used to eliminate the need for chemical fertilisers and they can be used to grow more plants.

So whats in it for my business

It's Guilt-Free Takeaway, You get to offer the convenience your customers demand with no barriers in the way like re-usable options, and they get to feel good about where their packaging ends up and a large percentage of the population say that it's a major factor in where they choose to spend their money. It’s a win-win.

Making the change made add pennies to your costs but can save your business money and also create a customer base of brand champions driving more business your way.
